When I relocated back to Southern California after my years with L’Oreal in NYC, I started my own marketing consulting business, with my first client being Colorproof Haircare. On the tail of Pureology’s undeniable success, Jim Markham went on to launch his fifth and final haircare line to capture the need for new innovation in color care. I was brought on, first for my copywriting and branding expertise for print collateral and digital campaigns, and later, as our partnership flourished, I transitioned into a pivotal role within the marketing team, providing ongoing support and strategic guidance. As a consultant, I excelled in spearheading new product launches, promotional materials, public relations initiatives, and launching Colorproof’s Shopify website, blog and e-commerce campaigns.
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cosway Beauty Brands acquired the brand and asked me to join the team full-time. As Marketing Communications Director, I was part of the dynamic team responsible for reimagining the brand’s identity, infusing it with a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic that resonated with stylists and consumers alike. Colorproof was reborn as a bold and modern brand that not only celebrated hair color but the joy that color brings. Guided by a holistic vision, we revitalized every facet of the brand experience, from its elevated packaging and promotional materials to its digital and social media platforms.
I played an essential role in our 360-degree omnichannel strategy, ensuring a cohesive brand narrative across diverse touchpoints. During and following the restage, I managed our public relations, social media, and e-commerce and Amazon teams and the content strategy and deliverables for our robust marketing calendar. Moreover, as a team leader, I played a central role in nurturing internal talent and fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration within the CBB team.
SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY
When I came onboard as the Marketing Communications Director, I inherited social media platforms that were under-preforming. Despite a significant following on Instagram, a substantial portion consisted of purchased bots from previous management, resulting in a lack of genuine engagement and algorithmic challenges. To address this issue, we made the bold decision to start a new Instagram feed for the brand restage in 2021. During my tenure, I led efforts to organically cultivate our following from ground zero to over 21K+ followers.
I spearheaded the strategy behind our content calendar that integrated our brand narrative and initiatives with season promotions and content to foster community engagement and drive brand awareness. Our strategy embraced a healthy mix of user-generated content (UGC), lifestyle product photography, engaging reels, product knowledge, monthly giveaways, noteworthy press mentions, and how-to videos featuring influencers and Colorproof stylists. Complementing our original content, we leveraged the power of social advertising to augment our reach.

With “Cares” being a pillar of Colorproof’s Guiding Principles (Color. Proof. Cares.), we sought after charitable partnerships that actively spearhead change in our communities that we could financially support while raising awareness for their causes. In my role, I forged alliances with It Gets Better Project, Imerman Angels, and HairTo Stay. With each activation, we raised funds through promotional campaigns and educated our consumers about the incredible work each organization does, whether for cancer patients and their families or the LGBTQ+ community.
